Ainex Corporation (CEO: David Lee, hereinafter "Ainex"), a medical artificial intelligence (AI) company, announced that it has successfully completed the live demonstration of its AI-powered diagnostic assistance software for upper and lower gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy, ENAD, at the International Digestive Disease Forum 2026 (IDDF 2026), held in Hong Kong on June 28.
IDDF is an authoritative Asia-Pacific gastroenterology academic platform organized by the Institute of Digestive Disease (IDD) under The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). It brings together gastroenterology specialists and researchers from around the world to share the latest clinical outcomes and techniques in gastroenterology, hepatology, and endoscopy. The organizing institution, IDD, is regarded as a world-class, top-tier gastrointestinal research institute equipped with a State Key Laboratory approved by the Chinese government, a Centre for Digestive Health, and an Endoscopy Centre, among other units.
The live demonstration served as both a real-time showcase and an educational seminar on the practical application of AI diagnostic assistance systems, featuring short lectures, live endoscopy cases, and expert panel discussions. The live endoscopy cases were streamed in real time from Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) in Singapore, remotely connected to the IDDF venue in Hong Kong, with endoscopy AI solutions from Medtronic (U.S.), EndoAngel (China), and Ainex (Korea) demonstrated together.
TTSH is a leading tertiary hospital at the core of Singapore's public healthcare system. The ENAD demonstration was led by Dr. Thian Mann Yie of TTSH's Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Through the upper and lower GI endoscopy case demonstrations, Dr. Thian provided a detailed introduction to ENAD's lesion detection (CADe), lesion characterization (CADx), and quality assurance (CAQ) functions, and explained how they can be applied in real clinical practice.
ENAD CAD-Gx detects abnormal areas in real time during upper GI endoscopy and instantly displays on-screen diagnostic results across a range of lesions, including Advanced Gastric Cancer (AGC), Early Gastric Cancer (EGC), Adenoma, Benign, and Intestinal Metaplasia (IM). This enables clinicians to more clearly determine whether a lesion is high-risk.
ENAD CADx classifies lesions into three categories — Adenoma/Neoplasm, Sessile Serrated Lesion (SSL), and Hyperplastic Polyp — and provides size measurements for detected polyps. Its real-time size measurement operates with precision and stability, supporting clinical decisions such as whether to resect or leave a lesion in situ, and the need for follow-up surveillance.
In addition, ENAD offers a Computer-Aided Quality Assurance (CAQ) function that automatically recognizes and records key quality-management factors — including inspection time, procedure segments, and examination location — thereby contributing to the overall quality control of upper and lower GI endoscopy.
During the demonstration, Dr. Thian engaged in an in-depth discussion with the panel on the clinical validity of AI diagnostic assistance systems. The experts described ENAD as "a real-time AI diagnostic assistance system that organically integrates detection, characterization, and quality assurance functions." They noted that "CADe serves as a tireless 'second pair of eyes' to reduce polyp miss rates during procedures, while CADx predicts the histological type of lesions and thereby supports clinical decisions such as resection or leaving lesions in situ." They further added that "the CAQ function minimizes missed areas during examinations, supports adherence to recommended inspection times, and ensures accurate quality metrics by distinguishing between procedure time and observation time."
The panelists also emphasized that as the scope of AI use expands, foundational endoscopic skills among clinicians become equally important. They agreed that "concerns about deskilling caused by over-reliance on AI still remain," and that "AI is not a replacement for clinicians' expertise but rather a complementary tool that should be used by clinicians who have already acquired fundamental endoscopy skills."
